ActiveCampaign vs Brevo: decide which events and channels you need

ActiveCampaign and Brevo both warrant investigation when customer communication spans several events or channels. The useful comparison is the exact journey you need to maintain. An email, an SMS, a service receipt and a sales task may share customer data while remaining different commitments, permissions and costs.

Define the scope before comparing plans

ActiveCampaign foregrounds automation and email alongside additional CRM, messaging and transactional options. Brevo describes a broader customer-relationship platform with plan-dependent marketing and separately scoped sales or service capabilities. Confirm the actual included functions and additional purchases in both proposals. ActiveCampaign pricing and Brevo plan definitions.

Avoid selecting one because it appears to contain more channels. First identify a reason to use each channel, the event that triggers it and who handles the response. A single reliable email journey may be preferable to several poorly maintained routes.

Requirement Question for both proposals
Event-driven journey Which source event, branch and stopping action are supported?
Sales handoff Which system owns the opportunity and accepting salesperson?
Marketing eligibility How are current preferences applied before sending?
Service messages What product and allowance cover the required delivery?
Failure recovery How are delayed, repeated and missing updates reviewed?

Rehearse the difficult state change

Use an illustrative consultation journey. A staff-controlled contact requests information, selects a topic and books a consultation. The intended result is a suitable confirmation and an owned sales task, with any irrelevant marketing changed according to a defined rule.

Then repeat the booking event and delay a customer-status update. Inspect whether the configuration creates duplicate tasks, sends an inappropriate reminder or loses the original request. Record actual observed results in each account. This article supplies a test design, not a claim that either platform's default automation handles every exception.

Use marketing event to owned follow-up to retain event identity, time, source, intended action and the accepting person. Require a visible correction path before increasing the number of connected systems.

Normalize cost units

Get quotes using the same contacts, eligible recipients, monthly sends, channels, users and required automation. Brevo's guidance distinguishes sending allowances, stored contacts and different products; ActiveCampaign's pricing also separates plan scope and capacity. Do not infer price equivalence from a contact count alone.

Include channel charges, optional products, integration work, migration and recurring maintenance. Ask what happens in a peak month and how an over-limit account is handled. A lower subscription price is not a saving if one platform needs extensive manual reconciliation for a required process.

Make a conditional choice

Shortlist the proposal that demonstrates the necessary events, suppression and recovery with the least maintainable complexity. ActiveCampaign may be a research direction for a defined automation-led project; Brevo may be a research direction when its verified channel and product arrangement matches the requirement. Neither description is a universal superiority claim.

Read the ActiveCampaign guide and Brevo guide. If the main problem is accepting and progressing sales opportunities, also review Pipedrive rather than forcing a marketing platform to become the owner of every customer task.
