Postscript: evaluate commerce messaging beyond the scheduled send

Postscript belongs on a shortlist when a commerce business has a defined reason to use mobile messaging and the staff to maintain the resulting conversations. The buying decision should connect audience expectations, relevant events, message costs and human replies. More automated texts are not a useful goal if customers cannot resolve the questions they create.

Scope the product you intend to buy

Postscript's current platform presents SMS and other messaging capabilities, including separately described email, RCS and managed-service offerings. Do not treat an SMS quote as confirmation that every advertised channel or service is included. Check the current platform, supported store, destination market and exact package. Platform and pricing and official Shopify listing.

Its pricing page distinguishes subscription or service charges from usage and carrier-related costs. A plan advertised with no base subscription can still have a minimum spend. A simple comparison of headline monthly fees therefore misses the operating cost of the campaign you intend to run.

Decide why a subscriber should receive the message

Document the collection point, displayed wording, requested channel and purpose. A checkout telephone number is not, by itself, a complete record of a marketing preference. Separate delivery updates from promotional messages and maintain the appropriate evidence for your markets and use case.

An illustrative store might send one relevant launch notice and one reminder to eligible subscribers. Before enabling the reminder, decide whether a purchase, preference change, customer reply or unresolved issue should change the next action. Test those rules in the intended configuration; an automation template is not evidence that every exception is handled.

Event Business rule to define Owner who should inspect it

Customer purchases Stop or change the promotional sequence Marketing operations

Budget the actual destination and message mix

Request a representative estimate using the intended countries, SMS and MMS mix, message length, carrier charges, minimum commitment and additional services. Ask how the provider defines a billable message and how encoding or segmentation changes the total. Use the vendor's actual rate definitions rather than multiplying subscribers by a generic global SMS price.

For an illustrative 1,500 eligible recipients and two messages, 3,000 planned recipient-message events is only a workload baseline. Suppressions, additional segments, replies, retries and a different message type can change actual billable usage. Keep forecasts separate from measured charges and reconcile the first campaign against the written quote.

Include creative preparation, audience QA, monitoring and the time needed to answer replies. A higher response rate can increase service workload even when it improves customer engagement. Define staffed hours and a next-update promise before the first broad campaign.

Rehearse a conversation, not just delivery

Use staff-controlled records to inspect a new opt-in, a purchaser, a recently changed preference and a person who replies after hours. Check the visible sender, working destination link, current offer and route into support. Confirm which application records the conversation and which person can close the loop.

When an AI or managed service is included, define the claims and decisions it can make. Product availability, a delivery deadline and a refund promise need dependable sources and authorized limits. Escalation should preserve the customer's actual message and the offer that triggered it.

Read the commerce messaging category for the distinction between campaign automation and request-specific alerts. Marketing event to owned follow-up supplies an exception record that works across a messaging platform and a support inbox.

Compare the nearest alternative

Use Postscript vs Klaviyo when choosing between a focused commerce messaging proposal and a broader customer messaging stack. Notify Me! is another research path for a narrowly defined restock request, not a substitute for every retention campaign. Keep email or your existing service channel when it already meets the customer's needs and no justified mobile use case exists.

Separate AI assistance from decision authority

When a messaging proposal includes generated text, conversational assistance or managed strategy, document the source of product facts and the decisions each role may make. A helpful reply about store policy is different from authorizing a refund, promising a delivery date or changing a customer's preference.

For an illustrative sold-out product, let the workflow encounter an obsolete promotional message and a customer asking whether stock is reserved. The response should distinguish an alert from a reservation and escalate an uncertain commitment to the right person. Inspect the exact content that would reach the customer rather than relying on a summary of how the feature works.

Keep the human review and escalation record with the campaign version. If the product, offer or destination changes, review affected message content and pending follow-up. A brand-style setting alone does not verify factual accuracy.

Finally, reconcile the first campaign's actual billable usage with exclusions, message format and the written pricing assumptions. Investigate the difference before increasing volume. This produces a useful operating baseline without inventing a conversion forecast.
